Location: South Africa

Job requirements

  • Be a professing member of a Reformed Congregation of North America (GGiN).
  • Be rooted in the Reformed doctrine.
  • Be earnestly bound to God's Word and the Three Forms of Unity.
  • Have a desire to be of service in God's kingdom on the mission field and feel called to do this work.
  • Be willing to live in South Africa indefinitely. 
  • Have a relevant community college degree (childcare worker, teaching assistant, or something similar)
  • Be proficient in the English language (minimum B2 level). 
  • Have a willingness to learn the local language. 
  • Be able to deal well with cultural differences. 
  • Preferably 25 years or older.

Profile Field worker/Child worker

The heart of a field worker that carries out children’s evangelism lies with children and/or teaching. The field worker is responsible for the after-school programs for children and teenagers in particular and provides them with Bible education in various forms. The field worker develops materials and methods in consultation with the (local) team and management. In addition to these activities, the field worker devotes his attention and energy to building and maintaining relationships and offering support to parents and children.


Main Responsibilities

  • Building relationships within the communities, learning the culture and language, offering support where needed within the set frameworks.
  • Preparing and teaching Bible and evangelism classes to children and teenagers in our work fields.
  • Visiting parents and/or families and offering pastoral care in special cases or events.
  • Supporting local partners in carrying out their programs.
  • The (further) developing of an education and evangelism plan for children and teenagers.
  • Developing and, if necessary, translating training and teaching materials for children.
  • Making annual, quarterly and weekly schedules for your own work field.


Further Specification of Activities

Carrying out children's programs, consisting of at least:

  • Preparing and telling Bible story
  • Preparing and teaching psalms/songs
  • Preparing and teaching Bible verses
  • Preparing and carrying out craft activities and games
  • Organizing and carrying out youth days and youth weeks
  • Other activities in consultation with the General Manager


Organizational Relations

  • The field worker answers to the General Manager, who has the overall charge of the missionary workers and field workers in South Africa. The General Manager is supported by the Field Manager. 
  • The field worker is directed by the Field Manager regarding the day-to-day operational matters on the fields.  
  • Human resources, organizational matters and staffing policy are the responsibility of the General Manager.  
  • The field worker works together with colleagues within the designated area of work for this position.  
  • The field worker reports weekly to the Field Manager and local manager of the particular work area. 
  • This position is, for the most part, under the direction of the General Manager and the field worker reports details to him if necessary. 
  • The field worker will be replaced by a fellow field worker in consultation with the Field Manager and General Manager in case of illness, holidays and furlough.  


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Keeping records:
    • attendance registers of the children
    • collaboration with local colleagues, volunteers and residents
    • stock records
  • Writing reports concerning:
    • House visits to the parents of the children;
    • Quarterly report to the board; submitting them to the General Manager. 
  • Writing personal blogs and project updates; submitting them to the General Manager. 
  • Submitting photographic material to the General Manager and administrative department.


Other activities

  • Participating in internal consults in SA, including: 
  • Week opening with the team of missionary workers 
  • Weekly consultations with (local) colleagues about the progress of the work  
  • Monthly development conversations and progress meetings with the General Manager 
  • Participating in external consultations outside SA, including: 
  • Personal conversations with IntoMission
  • Information sessions with the board and update sessions with stakeholders 
  • Contact with the missionary support team and conversations with the church consistory of the home church
  • Personal activities
  • Personal development plan  
  • Culture study
  • Language study  
  • Additional activities 
  • Participate in other activities that are jointly set up and carried out as a mission team.
